Our Take

Historic Beat‑era bar with well‑made classics and bohemian charm

Based on 1,968 reviews

Historic, bohemian atmosphereApproachable, well‑priced cocktailsGreat mezzanine view for people‑watching

No food menuOccasional brusque serviceCrowded and noisy upstairs

Best for: Literary tourists and history buffs (Beat Generation lore and proximity to City Lights)
Casual drinkers seeking atmosphere over cocktail theatrics
Solo visitors or pairs wanting a view from the mezzanine
Groups looking for a lively, storied bar in North Beach
Busiest: Weekend evenings (Fri–Sat after 8 pm)
